Approval has been given for a new skyscraper for Brisbane, Australia. The 70 storey tower called the Meriton Tower is the vision of the seventh richest man in Australia, Harry Triguboff who also happens to own the countries biggest apartment developer, Meriton.

The tower rises from a glass podium which will house the all important shopping space and office spaces. The towers façade not only makes use of colour but also materials, the glass ranges in colour from red laminate through to different shades of grey.

Thrown into the mix is painted concrete and aluminium with some hints of pearl white all which will go to ensure the tower will stand out in the crowd. Red laminated blades that appear near the top of the tower will be used for solar control as well as looking attractive.

Some might be reminded by the colour scheme of the black with red trim furniture of the eighties which is slightly ironic as Triguboff was of the impression in the eighties that Brisbane was a "backwater".

Despite the towers height it is remarkably slim measuring a mere 23 metres wide, it will also have 10 storeys of underground parking, the excavation of which would be the biggest in Brisbane's history.

It will be home to 403 luxury apartments 200 of which will be serviced hotel suites which Meriton plan to run themselves, no doubt the usual things like pools, spas, gymnasiums, communal spaces will be featured in the design.

Although there is no start date for construction the plans lodged with the city council estimate the building will take 3.5 years to complete, 1.5 of those years will be spent on excavation of the car park and construction of the parking levels.
